Question:

how do I disable my car alarm.it was suggested that this could help me start my rover?

So, I bought a 1996 Range Rover 2 weeks ago at an auto auction. I had it towed home (due to a flat). I was able to start it with a jump. It‘s been 2 weeks, and it won‘t start now. The battery is holding juice, but it‘s failing to starting now. I need to add that I recently removed the window, as the tract was broken, and I wanted to drive it without worrying about breaking the glass. So, when I try to start it the alarm goes off, and the dash is telling me that there is an air bag fault and the engine has been disabled. It‘s also telling me about the window. My question. What do I do now? How can I get it to start? Am I totally screwed? I bought this thing for $1,700 (it books for over $4,000) with the intention of fixing it up a bit and making some money. Do I just cut my losses?(feel free to e-mail me if you can help)

Answer:

Since you were able to start it with a jump, I don't think your alarm is the problem, but could be. You'll have to do some digging to see how the alarm is wired - maybe into the ignition system. Go online and see if you can get an owner's manual on your particular model. Disabling the alarm may not help. You may have to disconnect it or jumper the two wires (or more) than control the ignition system. Is the engine cranking over with some vigor or barely turning over. If barely turning over, the battery is not holding enough juice The air bag fault won't keep the engine from starting. You should be able to get everything working for about $1500 if you do the work yourself. Get a pro to do the air bag.
I have a Range Rover, and the Alarm Fault kicks in if you do things like unlock the car from the inside AFTER locking it from the outside with the key. You may have done this when you had the window out. There are a few ways to get around this. 1) What I do is put the key in the drivers lock, and go Right - centre- right centre etc until I have gone right 5 times. Then I do the same left, then right. Do this a few times, then unlock it and jump in and try start it. 2) Have the local Range Rover dealer connect their computer up to it, they will have to do it to clear the air bag fault anyways. You cant clear fault on these by disconnecting the battery. Also when you replace w indow it will say Window Not Set. You need to put the windows all the way down and hold the switch for 5 seconds, then go up and hold it for 5 seconds at the top also. See the below site, its a must see for Range Rover owners.
No you may get a little bump in hp. But to get 30 youd have to add better plugs wires exhaust etc. typically you dont pull that much from an intake.
