Question:

How do I disconnect the hood pin from a car alarm?

My girlfriend‘s vehicle has a NuStart nu3500 car alarm that works fine with the exception of a faulty hood pin. Whenever it snows and sometimes when it rains it sets the thing off. We know it‘s the hood pin as it was replaced once before and it did fix the issue, but the pin has since started to malfunction. Is there a specific way to disconnect the hood pin entirely or will this screw up the system? I just find it ridiculous to have to have it go in for a replacement every 6 months.

Answer:

Looks to me there is usually just one wire going to a pin switch and all it does is ground the alarm when you open the hood so all you need to do is unplug it and there will be no ground and wrap some electrical tape over the end of the wire connector so it does not ground to something. Don't see how it would hurt anything to unplug it even if it is a Mercury switch just unplug it and cover the end. if it does not set the alarm off when you unplug it, it should be alright unplugged, if it sets the alarm off plug it back in, it shouldn't hurt anything.
