Question:

How do I dispose of diluted muriatic acid?

I got some for my homeschool science program, but my mom and I decided to not use it because it is dangerous for our kitties.

Answer:

use a hair dryer on cool blow it out, there's dust in it, then replace the batty, if it starts again call the land lord tell him its faulty
maybe the battery that ws installed in the first place was weaklandlords take crap from one property and install them in other properties and say they are new. They also lie about the qualifications of their qualified professionals..finally who is to say he didn't buy that smoke detector 3 years ago and had it sittingin his storage for years
I think I understand your question - it sounds as if you want your son to feel like a hero. Personally, I think it's a fine idea as long as it's done at a fire station. I'm sure you could call first and explain your situation; I have no doubt that they would want to help. It would be wonderful if he could read the directions aloud. Let the firemen offer advice and tell him about fires. It's a great way to get him to learn. He may also love the truck, which they will most likely let him sit in, blow the horn, etc. He should know that becoming a hero involves helping others. No reason to have him pull a false alarm, of course. The fire department may have a simulated alarm. Perhaps afterward the two of you (assuming you are the parent; I know it may be a friend you're asking for) could watch a good movie about heroism. The firemen will tell him to only pull the alarm in an emergency. I'm sure it will be quite an adventure. You go too. He probably won't forget it for the rest of his life. Best of luck!
I think your right about the battery. It may be a new detector with an old battery. Or it may be an old detector with and old battery. Change the battery. When you go to buy it check it's expiry date. Qualified Professionals can be cheap S.O.B's too. After reading your additional. Call your landlord now it's his problem. PS put it back onto the cealing first, or he'll say you broke it. At the very least let him throw it away. If you do it you will have to buy another unit
