Question:

How do I fix my windshield wiper assembly?

I damaged my windshields wiper yesterday while clearing ice from the windshield. I lifted the blades, but must have done something else during. Now my driver‘s side wiper will not wipe correctly, sometimes not going out far enough, other times too far, going off the edge of my windshield, which is scary. What should be done about this, and what can I expect to pay, if I can‘t fix it myself?

Answer:

I'm gonna take a guess that you're not telling the whole truth. What you're experiencing is a common side effect of turning the wipers on while they're frozen to the windshield. The motor spins and strips out the wiper arm, causing random fluctuations in movement and sweep pattern because it's not tight anymore.
There is a lock nut on the bottom of the wiper arm, that often comes loose, remove the little plastic cap from the bottom of the wiper arm, and tighten the nut. Good Luck! -Ben
