Question:

How do I get my dog to stop sitting on the sofa?

Two of the sofa's in my house are in front of a window. My dog will not stop sitting on the top of the sofa's because he likes to look out the window! It's such a habbit, even when the blinds are shut and he cannot see out, he still is up there. Now I have indents on the top of both sofa's. I have tried every thing..yet the second I turn around, he climbs back up and plops him but down again! Moving the sofa away from the window is my last resort, but I really don't want to. Any ideas, I really would appreciate it!

Answer:

I know people will disagree with me but if it really makes your dog happy to sit on the sofa and look out the window then why not just let him do it. Eventually you are going to have to replace the sofa's anyway....just my opinion though.
i'm unsure if there are any products you should use, except there's a twig that dogs do no longer in user-friendly terms like the scent of. yet once you may get him to the place you like him to sleep (consistent with threat calling him to maintain on with you, consistent with threat with a toy), and consistent with threat bypass away a take care of there each and every night, or while he has a snooze, he could be greater at risk of sleep there quite of the settee. additionally if he spends long classes of time removed from the settee or sleeps on the dogs mattress compliment him saying issues like stable boy! and supply him a take care of or considered one of his toys (do no longer provide him too many treats although!). in case you capture him on the settee, or he's displaying his in charge face, say some thing like undesirable boy!, in basic terms so he's attentive to you do no longer approve of him being on the settee. If he's taken for universal walks and given various interest that ought to take his concepts off the settee too. desire this enables! :)
Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond)
We make the couch and sofa unappealing to our dog by putting big pillows there or boxes or stuff around. Yes, we have to move them when we want to sit down but it's a small price to pay. Our dog has a big, comfy bed of his own that he will lay on.
I used to have a dog that did this too! she knew she wasn't allowed on the furnature, and if we were looking she would not go. however, as soon as we left the room, we heard her tags jingling as she jumped on the sofa or bed. you can't get rid of a bad habit unless you are there EVERY time to correct it. otherwise, they just figure they can't do it when your around. I have 2 suggestions. my first and better one would be to either crate her or block off the room when you can not supervise so she can not jump on the sofa when you are not looking. if this is just not possible you can try what are called snappy trainers. these are modified mouse traps that DO NOT hurt your dog. when touched they just make a loud noise and bounce in the air. this way the behavior is corrected even though you aren't there. the problem with these is that A-some dogs just don;t care. B-you have to reset them or when she comes later they won't go off. good luck!
