Question:

How do i get my dog to use her new bed?

My dog is about a 1.5 years old. she has been sleeping on my bed her whole life and i got her a bed a few days ago, but she keeps coming on my bed with me. how do i get her to use her own bed?

Answer:

You could give her a treat every once in a while while she is laying on her new bed, but then we might keep wanting more treats.
You will have to treat the dog when she lays in the bed.
you can try to put her bed with her in on ur bed. show her how to stay in her own bed while she is still on your be than slowly put her bed on the floor so she can see that will be her bed for now on. like with my dog she sleep with me and on her bed. my dog starts off on her bed and like at around in the morning she will get on my bed. i show my dog that she has her own bed to sleep a month she is now 5 month old and sleep on her bed.
Every time the dog gets on the bed, put her in her bed. Even if it is the middle of the night. You must be very consistent and put her in her bed every single time she gets up. Right away. Since she is fairly young she should get it quicker than an older dog. You could also encourage her to use this new bed by putting an old towel or something that smells like you into the bed. This will help her adapt to the change better. A lot of pets are uncomfortable with the unusual smell of a new bed.
Now that is a tough one. I have a dog who is 4. Because you have trained your dog to sleep on your bed, she is not going to want to sleep on a bed on the floor. If you gave your dog a bed in the beginning, then she would sleep on it. I would try putting the bed on YOUR bed for a couple weeks, and have the dog sleep on the bed that is on your bed. The dog wants a scent or something she/he recognizes. I hope this works for you! Good luck!
