Question:

How do i go about disabling my car alarm?

Up until a few days ago i had no idea my 2000 Honda Civic Ex had security system. If i pressed the lock button on my remote twice, the horn would honk, but that was all. The other night i was walking to my car and pressed the unlock button and the horn honked twice, and i had no idea why. Later when i got out of my car and shut the door, the horn honked, and when I pressed the lock button on my remote it honked again. I got very tired of this so just stopped locking my door to avoid bothering anyone with the loud horn. But now if my door is unlocked and i open it, BEEP!!!BEEP!!!BEEP!!!BEEP!!! There is no information about an alarm or security system in my manual, so i can‘t figure out what i need to do to disable the system. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Answer:

If you have the Honda keyfob, there should be an option button on it. Press this button and the unlock button at the same time. This will silence the horn when you press the lock or unlock buttons- only your parking lights will flash. You will still need to press the unlock button before opening your door to avoid the alarm going off, since it sounds like the system sets itself somehow.
Are you sure it's your car? Just kidding. Unplug the speaker in the engine bay, take out the fuse of the alarm, and it will disable your alarm completely Or just unlock your car with your key.
