Question:

how do I put carpet on cement floor?

ok im thinking of remodeling and there is a hideous cement floor, i want a carpet...How do i do it? thank you

Answer:

underlay grippers and carpet
install tack strip, lay padding, install carpet. They make tack strip with concrete nails(hardened nails to drive into concrete)
two ways to do this job ....... glue down carpet ( direct glue down application ) basically cut the carpet to size roll it up and apply adhesive to the concrete and roll it out . or the tack less method,,, apply tack less ( concrete grade small strips of wood with nasty spikes sticking up aproc 1/4 inch ) to all edges of area ...walls doorways etc .then cut carpet approx 6 inches larger than the actual dimension. push into place with a carpet stretcher . then trimmed... after its tight .
Damn they do make it sound easy don t they? Their mostly right answers but it isn t as easy as that. Cement tack strips are an SOB ( sry) to get to hold into cement if you haven t done it before. The nails are hard to pound in. You may have to use construction adhesive and /or pre drill and use screws to ge tackles to hold. If using a pad it needs to be glued in a special way so it stays in place as carpet is pull atop and across it. If your doing a simple room and its just 1 pc 3 bigger than the room size is usually enough unless you have multiple door ways etc. Any other questions you can e mail me GL
