Question:

How do I start a new ivy HOUSEPLANT from an already existing plant?

I got my plant from a friends ivy and I was just wondering how I would go about cutting a new starter plant. thanks for any and all information!

Answer:

You can cut off the end of any branch, about 4 in long, remove the leaves where the stem will be in water, in a few wks it will grow roots and then u can plant! Done it many times!
There are various methods, each with a different success rate with different plants. I'd advise asking the friend the method he/she used as it is already proven with the plant. Another method is to simply use a metal hook to hold a branch to the soil of another pot. Takes a bit longer but works well for rosemary philodendrons.
I think this is a RSPS link, watch outit said player not founddont log into it, u might lose ur pass. Again, i think so, im not positive, cuz i didnt try logging in. Just saying, dont take the risk
Get some seed starter mix, or make your own from peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite. Stick a few sprigs in, keep very moist, and roots will develop. Transplant to potting soil. You can also start in water, but plants have a great deal of difficulty adapting to soil after rooting in water, and starting them in potting soil slows down rooting because of the density of the soil.
