Question:

How do I stop my cat from peeing on the rug?

He's a 1 year old male, and my mom bought a new rug for our bathroom, and he's always peeing on it! I really need to get him to stop because now my mom wants to get rid of him =[ And if it helps, we have another male cat (they're both fixed) that's 8 or 9 years old. Thanks!

Answer:

Even when some male cats are fixed they will spray their urine to mark their territory. Especially if the rug is new, he is making it to his scent likings. You could try keeping the bathroom door closed when your cat is around, and reward him when he goes in the litter box, then he might get the message.
My kitten had the right comparable subject--she stored peeing on the rug, on an identical time as quickly as we've had her for a pair years. Do you have assorted cats? if so, your cat could experience threatened approximately employing the muddle field, because of the fact she could smell the heady scent of yet another dominant cat. regardless of in case you do no longer, our answer replaced into to get yet another muddle field, one upstairs and downstairs. She could experience like she has nowhere to flow. If that would not help, attempt removing the rug until she learns she shouldn't pee there and use her muddle field. be conscious that girls persons are greater sensetive to marks than adult males, so wait and see. Our cat found out interior some days. yet in simple terms in case, a flow to to the vet could no longer injury. She ought to grant you extra information :)
First notice if your cat is showing other signs of other problems, like hiding away much of the time, drinks more water than usual, eating less----things like that, as it could be a urinary infection causing him to pee on the rug. I have 3 cats of my own and have had 3 before these and at least 2 of them showed the symptoms I mentioned and they needed to be treated by a Vet right away. Turned out to be a Urinary Tract infec. It's easily treated and an antibiotic will be given. Please tell your Mom not to give up on Kitty yet! A Vet can tell by an exam and feeling your cat's tummy area for any swelling and get a urine sample as well to get a diagnosis. But, in my exp. with animals, once the infection is cleared up, the ususual areas cats tend to pee in and on, quits after the inf. clears up. Hope this helps!
Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More??? on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing! Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...
Well you do have a problem. A sarcastic answer would be to show the cat the business end of a 9mm but that probably wouldn't go over very well. You have a dominance issue. The younger cat is marking all the territory it can, at this point the bathroom rug, and will gradually begin moving to other places the older cat has been. Even if the older cat hasn't marked, the scent will be there and marking will probably happen. I don't think there is anything you can do about this other than remove one of the cats and I suggest the younger one. Second solution. Just in case it is just the odor of the rug, go to the pet store and ask for an enzyme based odor remover. There are many brands and if I name one it might not be available in your area but they are all essentially the same and work very well. You don't need a lot and it may be available in a spray bottle. Take the rug outside and spray it liberally on both sides, particularly where the cat has peed. I'd add a little water on those spots first. Brush the rug to work the deodorizer in and let it air. About a half hour later, do it again just to be safe. If the cat continues to mark it after that, the first solution applies.
