Your smoke detector is outdated..it's more than likely the signal given telling you its time to replace. The sensor may be bad or faulty. It should be in the instructional manual (if you have one). Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors now should be replaced every 7-10 years or if they are set off in an actual emergency. I would recommend replacing the hard wired with a battery operated one. This will keep you on your toes having to check it for operation 4 times a year and replace the battery once a year.
Could they be getting moldy from where they are stored? Do they come out of the dryer like this or is it after they have been folded and put away for a while? Maybe the closet or drawer where you keep them has some mold in there. Check it out. If so, clean with bleach then either reline it or paint it.
