Question:

How do you control the speed of a single phase ac electric motor?

I am using a single phase ac electric motor (115 V, 60 Hz), and I need to calibrate the speed with some other equipment. What can I use to vary the output slightly around the max?According to the specs, it is only a 1.6 amp motor at max draw. For this reason, I am concerned about using a router speed control because the high resistance may just turn it off and on.Thanks a lot for your help!

A variable frequency drive is what you want. Any number of vendors supply them
You need a frequency inverter to alter the supply frequency.
