Question:

How do you figure out what kind of antilock brake system your truck has? Rear only, front only, or all wheel?

I have an 1997 f150 xlt supercab 8cy 4.6 liters. I checked the owners manual but it does not say.

Answer:

well it has rear that's a givenanything past a 70 or so has rear.so that rules out hte front only as well now to tell if it has all wheel anti-lock brakespop the hood and look :P. look at the master cylinderif teh lines coming out go down into this big *** box looking thing with other lines coming out then u have ABSwich means all wheelsif the lines from master go down and and into a junction point on the frame u dont have ABS other way to tell wud b get in turn key on but not start and see if an ABS light comes on with all the other lights if it does u have ABS. im pretty sure u do have ABS but i think some trucks that year still came without it.thought was only on v-6 tho
Look by the wheels themselves. IF you have a wire running along the brake hose, then you have ABS on the front. On the rear, you will see a wire and sensor on the the top of the differential, usually right above the drive shaft.
