Question:

How do you get the wet carpet smell out?

We recently had a storm and I had water damage in my bedroom and the carpet was soaked. A company came out and extracted the water and steam cleaned the carpets but I can still smell that wet carpet smell. Any ideas on how to get rid of the stinch?

Answer:

as Pita said but keep the room heated to aid drying out
I think the only way to get that smell out is to air it out for days or weeks, any time your at home open the window in that room if you can , air the carpet out and keep spraying it lighty with something that smells good while airing.
Question: do you smell the carpet cleaner or the original ucky smell from the flood? If it's the carpet cleaner, let it air out for a few days and the smell should go away. If it is still from the flood, call the company back and complain, tell them that you want it redone or money back. Joe is right, it might be the underpad that is stinking up the place. ~~
They ripped ypou off. they HAD to pull out all the carpet the pad under it was still soakedtell ur home owners insurance they did it wrong!!!!!!!!!!
Did the carpet guys that came out put a fan on the padding and under the carpet, If they didn't then your growing mold. Make sure that you get the carpets and the padding dried. Then use baking soda to get rid of the odor that the mold is causing . Just sprinkle it on the carpet and let it sit for a bit and then vacuume it up.
