you NEED the foam peanuts that are used in the bean bag chairs for it to WORK like a bean bag chair...feathers will NOT work, they don't 'spring back' nor do they remain 'fluffy'...you can get the beans at most hobby or fabric stores (or online if you google for them) and yes it's best to use a pattern...if you don't know what you're doing (and by the question I see you don't), READ and LEARN to use a pattern and the CORRECT materials for the job.
