how do you remove a moldy smell from carpet?

Answer:

Try cleaning it with a solution of vinegar and water. I've used it in my carpet cleaning machine and it takes pet urine odor out, so it might work on mold. I also read somewhere that alcohol is good for things like that and it evaporates rather quickly, so it might be an option if you don't have access to a carpet cleaner.
if your carpet is smelling of mold it could mean you have mold growing under it. If it?s only a small area you can fix this without lifting up the whole carpet. I can suggest this. If you have a spare piece of carpet or can cut a piece from some where it will not show (Under heavy furniture ) . Then cut the moldy piece of carpet out using a sharp safety razor. Then treat the mold with a proprietary fungicide. Once you have this done , Dab the bottom of the hole and the ends of the tufts with a suitable latex adhesive, insert the tufts into the hole and allow to dry , the trim the tufts if necessary and brush to blend with pile. Save you a lot of money and time if you have to lift a whole carpet and replace it
Get a new carpet..there are some products that can get the mold smell out of other things but for carpeting then smell is all the way down in the padding.
It depends on how deep the mold is. If it's in the padding, then you will have to replace the carpet. However, there are a few things you can do: 1) If you have the same carpet in the closets, cut a hole in the carpet and cut a hole of the same size from the carpet in the closet. You won't notice it in the closet as much as you think. 2) If the padding IS modly as well, please consider replacing the carpet.
You can clean the carpet with the following process: 1) Vacuuming carpet for collection of all loose dirt particles. This step insures dirt and grime will not be ground into your carpet upon agitation. 2) Pre-spray application of our cleaning solution. The solution is applied evenly throughout the carpeted area. 3) Agitate the carpet. Agitating the carpet allows for the cleaning solution to really cleanse the carpet fibers. 4) Use hot water extraction with the equipment. The extraction allows for a deep thorough rinse of all carpet fibers. 5) Do some beautiful grooming of the carpet. Giving the carpet a newer appearance look.
