Question:

how frequent do windshield wipers need to be replaced?

hello i want to know how frequent do we need to replace the windshield wipers, not the rubber part but the metal part. And how much do they cost usually? I have a honda accord 01 model. thanks.

Answer:

OK, when you say the metal part, I assume you're talking about the blade assy. I've allways found it best to replace the whole blade assy when they start to streak, and make noise. I don't bother with the blade refills because they're a pain to install, they don't last as long, and sometimes they're made to fit allot of differant makes and models of vehicals. I think your best bet would be to buy NAME BRAND wiper blades to fit your car. I usually change mine about once a year around this time.Other than that, nothing else should need attention. (washer fluid not included) HINT: From time to time, take a damp paper towel and wipe off the rubber part of your wiper blades. You'll be amazed at all the dirt that accumilates.
You should change out your blades every 6 months. The reasoning behind this is the rubber gets dry and little rocks and other things chew up the blade a bit and they just don't work as good anymore.

The metal part can and does last much longer than a year, but I always buy a complete wiper blade (rubber) and the metal housing at the same time, about once a year. The cost shouldn't be more than about $15-20 maximum for both wipers.
