How hard is it to put FORD truck axles under a JEEP CJ5?

Answer:

Jeeps were and are made for off road and awesome 4x4 for any situation Putting ford rears are a waste time because the jeep parts will ge the job done.
Personally, I went with Pacesetter longtube headers, exhaust cutouts, and a Magnaflow catback system. I don't recommend Flowmaster, as they just don't flow as well as other catback systems. Look into a set of headers and a Magnaflow/Borla/SLP catback system. That should give you the noise you are looking for. And if that isn't loud enough, you can always weld in a cutout. They are fun.
either flowmasters, magnaflows or the cherrybomb just like u said. my dad has magnaflows on his pickup and it sounds great and real deep muscle car sound.
Robert covered most of the major points i think. Something to take into account - It is very common to put bigger axles under Jeeps. Its been done plenty of times. But the guys that are doing it have extensive knowledge on how to weld and fabricate. You will very likely need change the location of all suspension brackets on the axles.this means removing the old ones, fabricating new ones and welding them on. Some guys shorten the axles so they dont stick out way past the fenders. Some guys leave them wide. but the guys that leave them wide don't drive on the streets. They two their jeep to the trails on a flatbed. You may have laws prohibiting how far out your wheels can sit. Bottom line - I would say if you have to ask the question, you may not have the knowledge needed to complete such a large project. No offense.
A couple of things to consider. 1. which side is the differential on.front axle 2. is the differential centeredrear axle Regarding those issues, Do they match up with your transfer case (#1) and rear tranny output (#2). 3. The cj5 uses axles that are not very wide. Most Ford trucks are much wider. The axles will need to be narrowed. My suggestionDANA 44 axles that are built for the cj7, they are a bit wider, known as wide track, 1982-86 models. another option is using the AMC 20 rear, with solid one piece axles by Moser or another well know company. The 20 is a solid unit when the two piece axles are replaced by one piece axles. Sometimes a bit hard to find but most jeepers would agree that jeep parts are the best option.
