Question:

How is type 1 plastic (PET) recycled?

so for science we need to make a 'plastics poster' containing information about a certain type of plastic. i got type 1 (PET- polyethylene terephthalate). i already got most of the information, but 2 questions i dont get: a brief explaination of how the plastic is recycled (the process? idk), and the quot;cost-to-benefit ratioquot; of recycling this plastic. help please?

Answer:

so i have the same exact project, and i was wondering how u found the basic cost of recycling for PET? ive been searching for awhile and the only two i didnt get are the cost to benefit ratio and basic cost.
recycled plastic is chopped into very small pieces and melted together. Then a new plastic is extruded. It can be made into a fine fiber that can be woven into fabrics. There are t-shirts, socks, hats as well as carpets made from soda bottles. The cost benefit ratio depends on getting people to buy recycled products. When collection of the bottles is handy, people will do it. The deposit on soda bottles has helped in some places to get people to return the bottles. More advertising of green goods would help, as well as lower cost for the green products.
You wanna make yourself into Plastic? LOL
