What is the average life expectancy of home air ducts (sheet medal and flexible)? My home in 22 years oldWe just had our sheet medal ducts cleaned and the company said the inside of the ducts were rustyDoes this mean they are already nearing the end of their life? What will happen if I don't replace them? Any health problems? How much would replacement cost? The home is in western Pennsylvania and has central heat and air conditioning.

no, i think you are okare they flex duct or aluminum? if they are rusty, that means moisture/condensationaluminum ducts are much better than flex ductwhat you could do which is somewhat cheap and effective is insulate themthat will prevent any further condensation from formingit's a do it your self project tooflex duct was intended to be used for bends and angles but a lot of home builders use it throughoutit has insulation already on ittypically it will be round, shiny, pipingif you have good aluminum ducts, i would consider wrapping them with insulationno more condensation! youre right, tin or sheet metalpoint is wrap the ducts with insulationwhen you have cold air blowing through a hot humid attic, condensation formsinsulate your duct works and no more moisture.
