Question:

How long does it take for paper mache to dry?

My kids and I originally were planning on making little turkey pins for their teachersI went crazy looking for Sculpie clay in our quot;throw everything in therequot; work room, and couldn't find it-as the electricity in there does not workSo, as an alternative art project, I decided that I would go back to my grammar school days, and do a paper mache cornucopia with themSo, it's all sculpted, over one of their toy hazard cones covered in plastic wrap, sitting on an aluminum lined cookie trayThen I got to thinking, as I probably should have before we began our art project-uuuhHow long will it take to dry? Only a couple days, provided it is dry inside, right? I want to be able to paint it with acryic for them so that we can use it as a center piece on Thursday(Over the next couple days, I plan on gathering pine cones with them so we can use them in the center piece as well.)

Answer:

This is the recipe my father loves to useHe takes a can of cream of mushroom soup - adds the water and mixes it until the soup is thinnedHe brings it to the boil, tosses in the pork chops, turns the heat down to a simmer, and cooks for 20-25 minutes - the pork chops will be perfectThis works great with frozen pork chops or frozen chicken as well - just extend the time by about 20 minutesAnyway, while the pork chops are cooking away in the soup, boil up a potato that you have peeled and chopped and placed in waterWhen you can poke a fork through it, drain it, add butter, salt and pepper and mash itThen when you're ready to eat, place a scoop of the mashed potatoes into a bowl, place a pork chop next to it, and cover the whole thing with some of the soupVery good.
It depends on how thick the paper mache parts are but in most cases it will dry overnightIf you want to speed up the drying process you can put it in a warm (no more than 200 degrees) oven for a few hours, just check on it every 20 minutes or so to make sure the plastic toy hazard cone isn't melting.
My mom makes this really easy dish and now I've adopted it, and I think it's great!!! All you need: pork chops, canned apple pie filling and stove-top stuffingPut apple pie filling in bottom of glass dishPlace raw pork chops on topMeanwhile, prepare stove top stuffing as package saysThen spread prepared stuffing overtop of pork chops, cover with tin foil and bake in 375-400degF oven until pork chops are fully cooked about 20-25minsso easy and tasty!!!
Pork chops and rice bake, so easy a caveman can do it - LOL: Brown 4-5 bone-in chops in a bit of oil in a hot skillet - maybe 5 minutes a side over medium-high heatYou may have to brown a few at a time, removing in betweenSeason browned chops with salt and pepper, return to skilletSprinkle with 1 cup Uncle Ben's uncooked rice, then add 1 1/4 cup beef broth and 1 cup hot water(See note below on this.) Bring to boil, reduce heat to low, cover, simmer for 50-60 minutesOne of my favorite meals! Note: Ok, since a can of broth is more than 1 1/4 cups, use the whole can of broth, then add enough water to make 2 1/4 cups liquidThen you're not stuck with a tiny bit of beef brothYou can transfer chops to a glass pan, then add rice and liquid, and bake at 350 for an hour, coveredIt is just as good but you have an extra pan to wash Guy, get yourself a crock pot and a slow-cooker cookbook (or search online for slow-cooker recipes)You will be amazed how easy it is, how good foods taste, and with little preparation and ingredients! Dinner would be ready when you got home too.
