Question:

How long is it safe to keep a working electric blanket?

I have an electric blanket that is over 20 years old and still works. If it's not on fire or electrocuting anyone, how do you know when it's still safe to use it and when you should give it up? Thank you in advance for your response

Answer:

I always wore the pads because there was so much milk everywhere that it would keep me awake (lying in it)..if your husband decided with you that co-sleeping was o.k., he'll have to deal to a certain extent but until you start nursing, you don't really know how much milk there can be. You will leak alot in the first few months and as the baby develops his own routine, you'll find that the only time you leak is right after let-down.
Personally, I find it uncomfortable to be wet when I sleep, so I wear a nursing bra to bed. But what I do (and you can consider) is I have the crossover kind, and I just take one side completely off (whatever side my baby is on) and that way, he nurses that side when he wants to, and I don't leak all over from other side (or not much) because I have the nursing bra and pads there. At some point during the night/morning, I switch sides. Course, if your fiancee thinks you're ruining sheets I'd give him crap for that. ;) But I also put down a receiving blanket underneath baby and me, to absorb all the spilt milk.
Breastmilk won't stain cotton sheets, but if you really want new sheets go for it. As for the mattress put a large towel UNDER the sheet where you sleep. Beech towels are good as long as they won't leak dye. The milk everywhere should slow down soon. Not to say you won't leak sometimes but it won't be all the time. (And yes I'd show him the couch)
Muslin cloths. Have you heard of them? They are so great for many many reasons, they are very absorbent, they have many uses, but the main one for me is to lay them under my boobs at night, and they absorb any milk that leaks. I'll find you a link, we have a pack of 60, we go through about 5 a day! I recommend them. cgi.OKorder.ie/5-MUSLIN-SQUARES-CLOT - Very cheap too, this is the Irish , but you'll find them on the American one too. ;) **Edit** you don't have to worry about the mattress or the sheet with the muslins, because they will soak up every bit of leakage, you could even put 2 or 3 under you for extra absorbency, and you'd still be comfortable. **edit 2** Good lord i hope whoever gave 'M v' 2 thumbs up were doing it in some sort of ironic way
