Question:

how much different in size are these motorcycle tire specs?

how much different in size are these motorcycle rear tire specs? 170 / 80 -15 compared to 200/ 70-15 i want to know how much taller / wider, in inches, etc.

Answer:

Try this search on Yahoo! or Bing: motorcycle tire specification code
Most motorcycle tire manufacturers have their tire specifications available on-line -- width, diameter, recommended and allowable rim widths. There is considerable differences in the actual size between different manufacturers for tires of the same nominal size, and even for different models from the same manufacturer. You will have to look up the on-line specifications for the particular brand and make of tires you are considering.
The former will be approximately 25.88 inches tall while the latter will be approximately 26.2 inches tall. The latter will be approximately 1% taller and would lower the engine rpm in high gear by the same amount. The former will be approximately 6.8 wide and the latter will be approximately 8 wide. Keep in mind that while the tire size stated on the sidewall may be the same, there is often a slight difference in width and height between brands. I've found that most often, the more expensive tire is going to have more rubber in it and if there is going to be any difference in size, it will be larger than the cheap tire.
