Question:

How much is a good set of spark plug return bearings? ?

For a 2005 Ford Mustang GT? Garage telling me mine are bad and are wanting to charge me $2000. They also said my muffler charging valve is acting up as well.

Answer:

Check your local salvage yards for these parts - and don't take no for an answer - they fit 1941 and up Mustang GT's.
That price is about right for the spark plug return bearings. While the mechanic has the bearings out and heads off, have him check the piston return springs and re-grout the cylinder walls, its $$ well spent.
sounds reasonable, you may wanna upgrade to sealed/lubed for life return bearings so you dont have to lube them every 10,000 miles, also look for at least 8 ball return bearings. The muffler charging valve is a known problem if i remember there is either a recall or a tsb (technical service bulletin) for that .you may be able to get the valve replaced free. i would try for the freebie for sure.
Before you go ahead with this, Ford has a recall notice. Look up FoBU-115-H1T. This could save you the $2000. The problem is these are side sensitive. The CW spin bearings are specifically installed in spark plugs 1-4 while the CCW spin bearings are for spark plugs 5-8. If your car was built on a Monday, they were most likely installed backwards. Check your vin number regarding your build date. The muffler charging valve is a typical scam from most independents and quick change lube places. This valve is self cleaning in the GTs during high RPM driving. If you perform redline shifts, as you should in a GT, your muffler charging valve will last the life of your engine. For those who have V6's, you should consult your Ford Service department for scheduled maintenance. I hope this helps.
Where I live, the car-owner is not obliged to patronise any particular shop. Go to the next one if you are not satisfied
