Question:

How much should I be able to max bench press?

I am 16 and a half, Junior, and im wondering how much i should be able to max bench press? I weight 143 lbs and 5'11 with a 72in wingspan. Currently my max bench press is 190 lbs.

Answer:

There's really no bench press standard. It depends on many factor: how long you've been training, the type of training you've been doing, how good your form is, genetics (shape of muscles and length of tendon attachments), etc. I will throw out the common metric that only about half of men aged 30 can bench press their weight. Another metric to use is if you can bench press 100 pounds more than you're weight, you are probably in the top 10%. If you can bench press double your weight, you are in the top 2%. At age 16 with a bodyweight of 143, a 190 pound press is very good.
i'm 15, 140lbs 5 foot 9 and i bench 240
