Question:

How much weight can i safetly hang on a hollow wall? Looking to hang tv onto a plasterboard wall...?

I really want to put a flat LCD tv onto my plasterboard wall and was wondering how much weight they can usually take. I did want to hang about a 32 inch which would be about 25kg...

Answer:

Your studs should be at 16 centres (or metric equivalent) depending on the age of your house. You may be able to find studs by gently tapping along the wall which will sound hollow until you reach the stud.
Locate the studs behind the plasterboard. Use at least two studs, as near the ends of the mounting brackets or shelf as possible. Bert
That will be a VERY expensive mistake. Drywall itself will not support the weight of a flat panel. Find a stud, and mount your bracket to it. An alternative would be to mount a piece of 3/4 plywood between 2 studs, securely fastening to both, then attaching your bracket to that. Hope this helps.
find a stud will hold more weight than just the wall itself
All the DIY stores sell cheap stud detectors. Always useful.
