Question:

How often should you get carpeting professionally cleaned? ?

We just got New carpeting through our house yesterday, how often should I have the carpeting cleaned...is it every 6 months or every year? Thanks

Answer:

I have three dogs and three cats, three kids, too. I have carpet all through my house. I own a carpet cleaner but also have my rugs professionally cleaned twice a year. Usually in January and then August. Stanley Steamer does a great job. I have them spray pet stain and odor enzyme, too. If you can afford to buy into their plan, they are a bit cheaper. I have a 17 year old American Eskimo who isn't great about going outside. I probably use my carpet cleaner once a month or when there is an accident.Personal Experience I use Nature's Miracle on spots. There is another great product called 0 odor for smells. It really absorbs the odors without masking or covering it up. If you can vacuum daily it really helps. No matter how much you clean, it seems like stains wick up eventually. Good luck.
I wouldn't do it more often than once a year. I'd ask the carpet manufacturer their recommendation. You might be able to do that by email on their website.
I wouldn't do it more often than once a year or even every 2 years if I have a good efficient vacuum cleaner and the carpet doesnt get grubby. Washing the carpet can matt the fibres if its wollen and also wear the carpet out. I have used a carpet Drycleaning service and had great results and you are left with dry carpet.
Please do not listen to the best answer above. Carpet manufactures recommend you clean your carpet every 6 months to 1 year by a professional cleaner who uses the hot water extraction method. Many carpets now days come with a stain warranty and if you do not have it cleaned at least once a year your warranty will be void. Dirt acts like sandpaper to carpet and wears it out prematurely. The only reason it would attract dirt as the answer above states is that it was not rinsed properly. This happens most often with home cleaning systems because there is no rinse process to their equipment. A professional steam cleaner should spray on their cleaners first and then use either only water or a chemical rinse to neutralize the soap so there should be little to no residue remaining. I am a professional carpet cleaner and am speaking from experience.
Carpeting should be cleaned as infrequently as possible. Cleaning carpet actually contributes to making your carpeting more dirty. This sounds strange, but it is true. The reason is that soaps are used in the cleaning machine that get into the carpet fibers. Is it difficult or impossible to get all of the soaps out of the carpet because only a small amount of water is used to clean to keep your floors from being saturated. Becuause the soap is added and not completely removed, when the cleaning is finsihed, it leaves soap in the carpet. When you walk on the carpet the soap acts as a glue almost that attracts dirt and filth. You can try this yourself by taking some liquid soap and putting it on your floor and later feel it. it will be sticky. So, instead of cleaning your carpet every 6 months or 12 months, just dry vaccum frequently. Personally, i only have my carpet professionally clean when absolutely necessary, about once every 6 years.
