Question:

How should hockey equipment cost for my kids?

My son and daughter are starting ice hockey this year and I want to know how much it would roughly cost for the two of them combined. I have no budget but don‘t get me to buy composite sticks, as I‘ve already bought them some nice and light wood sticks. Thanks everyone!BTW my son is 9 and my daughter is 8 and will be playing house league, not rep.

Answer:

Aleef don't listen to that sexist dude. Since they are still young, you don't need to get these expensive brands. They will eventually grow up fast so you'll probably have to change their gear once in a while. Cheap equipment will do. The answer for the approximate price was given. Don't forget that in addition to the gear, you'll need to pay for the subscription, the uniform and the training camp (is there is one). But I would add some things. You could go to places where they sell hockey gear that are not that expensive like Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, or ****** (not sure). You could also buy online on Hockeygiant, hockeymonkey, etc. Just make sure you know your kid's size before ordering. Now, most of online and local shops have a discount on their equipment because it's off season. Another alternative would be to buy used, either at a store like Play it again sports or online on Ebay, Kijiji, or Craiglist. However if you use online it will take some time to be shipped. It's a good thing you decided to share the passion of hockey. I didn't have that chance since my parents couldn't afford to get me into that sport. Good luck!
Some Methods I Found; Vaseline will stop the screeching, but with some aggravating results after years of messing with aftermarket blades and refills, i just go to my honda dealer and buy the rubber inserts made for the blades. take the old inserts out, remove the 2 spring steel pieces from each, put them in the new refills, then reinstall. seems silly to spend over $10 on 2 tiny strips of rubber, but the wipers work like new for a few more years Rain-X? But then you don't need the wipers. Oh well, no more screeching either way. Even when the Rain-X coating is in too poor a condition to deflect rain adequately, it may lubricate the glass well enough to stop the noise
I would try looking at stores online that sell sports equipment. So you could roughly get an idea on how much things should cost, and then actually go to the store to purchase them.
the skates will be most expensive. at his age, around about 90 a pop. the other pads will range from 10-40 dollars each a house league generally costs between 300-600 dollars per season. id say total, you'd spend about 700 dollars on equipment and the season on one child
I have to agree with the suggestion of using the best quality or dealer style blades. Also some rubber lube on the blades from time to time will help as well. When they get dirty the rubber dries out faster and gets hard. It is this hard rubber that makes them chatter across the windshield.
