Hello!I have a pair of cloves that are made of a spandex-y type material (the brand is isotoners). I want to know if there is a way to add grip on the gloves? I find the material a little slippery for example is I am shoveling snow.Thanks !
I don't really think there's a reason; I've seen blue, silver, green, yellow, red, and even a dalmation one at our local fire station. I think it's whatever color the city council decides; if it wants traditional red, or green to blend in, or whatever, so be it.

It is possible they are painted in contrasting colors to make them more visible. It is also possible the colors indicate the pressure level of the water supply. Other than the traditional red, there is no standard for color, so the only way to know for sure is to ask a local firefighter.

NFPA standards cover the proper color code for hydrants. The colors help easily identify a hydrants capacity in Gallons Per Minute (GPM). Usually the body of the hydrant remains red and the bonnet (top) and caps are painted the different colors.
