Question:

How to add power and cable outlet to closet?

I'm trying to run a cable and power outlet into a closet for a media space but im not sure how to add the outlets in there. The area where the closet is, is on a wall that has no outlets and behind the closet is a bathroom which has no outlets on that side of the wall either so theres nothing to tap into. please help.thank you.

Answer:

This is for a media closet, so more than a couple things will be plugged in right? Consider pulling a new circuit back to the panel. You can also tap into an existing circuit by finding the last receptacle on that line and dropping a new cable down the wall into the box. Try not to load the circuit above 80% of it's rating, so 15=12A, 20=16A. I'm assuming you have an unfinished attic or basement as you already plan to run media cable.
What's under and over the closet? If the basement (unfinished is best for tapping into and no worries of going through multiple walls) is under it, you may have a bunch of choices to tap into. Make a list of what circuit breaker/fuse every light, outlet, appliance is on, you don't want to overload a already full circuit.
if you mean a shower room then you cannot put electrical sockets in as it's illegal. Similarly you will blow the equipment up when it gets wet.
This is so situation and construction specific that it can't be answered. Anyone answering this would have to be there in order to tell you what the solution is. Tell ya what, give us full mechanical, structural, and electrical blueprints for your house and I'll tell you what to do. LOL. I'm sorry that your question is impossible to answer. I guess the real answer is to find someone handier than yourself.
