Thrash: Slayer OLD Metallica Melodic : Dark Tranquillity
Most of the Melodic Death Metal I listen to is from Sweden not America. Melodic Death Metal as a whole is better than Nu Metal although I think System of a Down are amazing they are not Nu Metal, so that makes Korn the best Nu Metal band and In Flames and At the Gates just totally pwn Korn. Melodic Death Metal wins. @The Psychedelic Warlords: Yeah that is were it started and first generation bands for scenes or genres are usually the best.

Melodic Thrash Metal Bands
I prefer thrash metal. To me metal should be heavy. I'm not saying that metal bands can't be melodic; there are some very good melodic bands out there, some of which I like very much. And a bit of melody can make a welcome change from all that brutality. But gebnerally I like my metal hard and heavy, and therefore I like thrash better, especially Slayer. Although black metal is my favourite.
