Question:

How to disable a car alarm?

I just recently got a used 2004 VW Beetle and every time I start the car after not driving it for a few hours, the alarm goes off. I don‘t know why it does this, I have made sure several times that I am NOT pressing the panic button on my keys. Someone please help :(

Answer:

The alarm is armed (on) and the driver's door latch is not sending the unlocked, door open signal to the alarm/comfort module. Therefore, the alarm sounds off when you start the car. You have 2 options. 1. Replace the Driver's door latch. Then when you unlock the door with the key, the alarm will turn off. 2. Buy a new remote and have it adapted to the car. Then the alarm will turn off when you unlock the door with the remote. You could disconnect the alarm horn, in the plenum chamber underneath the wiper motor, but the turn signals will still flash while you're driving. The is really no way to disable the alarm. The Anti-Theft Alarm is part of the Comfort System Module or Central Locking System Module, depending which system is installed in your car. If it was my car, I would replace the driver's door latch, and get a new remote. It can be problematic just replacing the remote alone. Bare bones, just replace the door latch. About $300 installed at the dealer.
Have you pressed the unlock button on the key fob? Have you turned the key in the driver's door lock, CCW, twice?
