Question:

How to draw a person transforming into a chair or jacket?

I am drawing a manga for a friend of mine and need to draw a transformation sequence for the story. Its a story similer to Harry Potter about a school of wizards. He wants me to draw a picture of a boy being transformed or morphed into a chair and another boy transforming into a jacket (I think a sports jacket).

Answer:

The chair: back rest could be in the shape of two ovals one smaller on top of the other which could be the torso and head, while the arm rests could be the arms and legs. I think as suggested, the melting effect could look sharp also, where a person falls back into a sitting position, part of them is melting into the chair, like a face that is stuck in a chair. Wood grain could heighten the effect also. The jacket - In my mind I see someone standing in a position similar to the karate kid crane position, drawing a leg up. The arms can become the arms of the jacket - outstretched slightly, the head could fall into the body of it, and both legs will eventually be drawn up into the body also. The leg lifting up can be shown as morphing into the jacket while the other leg has just started levitating.
Almost like melting into the chair draw it as one object not as a person and a chair
use imagination
