Question:

How to drive an automatic car up a steep hill?

Hi,I‘m about to move to a new apartment complex. The problem is that the parking is in a teeny tiny shed on the side of a VERY steep hill. I have never driven on a hill before.I know that when going up you‘re supposed to gas, and when going down you‘re supposed to brake. but what are some tips to keeping control of an automatic car while you drive up? T Thanks so much!! )

Answer:

Driving a automatic car has been well explained on my BLOG
If you are driving up without stopping then just press gas and its like driving on syraight road. If you have to stop in between and then start again then what to do depends on the car. If your car has a tendency to roll back as soon as you release brake on steep hill then apply handbrake before you release the brake , press the gas pedal a little you will see the nose of the car lift up then release the handbrake. Most automatics do not roll back , if you have a car like that then all you have to do is shift your leg from brake to gas but do it instant and give it a little more gas than usual. When going downhill, you can use a lower gear if your car has one or can jusst use the brake. Using a lower gear along with brakes is much safer but only some automatics have that option.
