Question:

How to engrave a ceramic pot?

I want to engurave something in a ceramic clay pot. What do i need to do this and how do i do it?

Answer:

Go down to your local police station and ask. What's legal in one state may be illegal in another. Where I live, if you don't want to get pulled over, you need red on the back, amber on the sides, and white on the front.
Hi Magic, Your best bet is to have a laser engraving company do this for you if you want something accurate, like text or an iimage. If you just want to creatively carve it yourself, a dremel or small metal pick (like dentists use) would work. Hand draw the pattern on the ceramic and slowly carve it away with the tool of choice. If the pot is glazed it will take some effort to remove the glazing and get to the base ceramic. Be very careful wneh engraving ceramic as it is really easy to crack. Slow, methodical chipping away of small amounts at a time. If using a power tool use on high speed and lightly touch the pot to carve a bit at a time. Too slow of a speed will cause vibration and could crack the pot. Hope this helps. Mike Perrino MG LaserWorks
