Question:

how to get rid of carpet?

I have an ugly pink-tan carpet that has to go. Underneath the carpet is wood. But the wood is a bit rough and doesn't have any color to it. How do i remove my carpet and fix up the wood floor underneath?

Answer:

How is the carpet attached to the floor; is it glued down, tacked at the edges, stapled, etc.?
The carpet need to be pulled as you said. Start at a corner with a pair of pliers to get a grip and pull back. If the room is of any size, I pull back along one wall and use a utility knife and cut through the backing rather than through the top. I cut in strips from 4/8 foot wide depending how long the room is. Roll up with carpet side out for easier handling, I use duct tape or strong twine to tie the roll. Then remove the pad and tack strip. A floor scraper will remove the stapes. If there is hard wood under it, call a flooring guy/gal to refinish it. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. take a knife to the corner and pull it up cut all around the edges and just pull. use some goo-be gone if you need to with the glue. then take one of those power tools that make the floor smooth. (idk what they are called lol) smooth out the floor and stain it :)
