Question:

How to get the smell of beer out of my rug?

My friend knocked over her beer on my rug and didn't tell me until the morning after... it smells pretty bad. Any suggestions how to get rid of it quickly and permanently? I don't have many tools to use but i can run to a drug store if i need to.

Answer:

Try a little washing up liquid in warm water and give it some elbow greece with a hard/soft brush depending on the rug type. If you have fabreeze then give a wack with that also, if not rub some lemon over it and leave a window open for it to dry.
since it's already dry use soapy water or carpet shampoo machine. maybe sprinkle diluted vinegar spray; after it's dry put down baking soda
Get a towel and some warm soapy water. Scrub it up good then blot it dry with another towel as well as you can. When it is Completely dry sprinkle with baking soda, let that sit for a few minutes and then vaccum up.
Pick up as much beer as possible with paper towels. Use a solution of diluted vinegar. About 2-4ounces in a quart should do it. If the smell persists make the solution stronger. Pour the solution on the beer spill area and allow it to soak for a couple of minutes. Then dry the area as best as possible with paper towels. Place a fan on the rug at the spill and allow it to run until the it is dry. Check for the beer of beer and repeat if needed. You may want to use a carpet deodorizer from the cleaning section of the drug store after doing the above procedure. Soaking up as much of the beer and drying the rug is key to keeping the beer smell to a minimum.
