Question:

How to level my basement floor.?

I would like to reno my basement and the concrete floor is uneven. The four corners of the basement are lower than the rest. i would like to put in a few new walls and cork flooring. Whats the best way to level my floor.

Answer:

You can lose space by putting a leveling concrete survace over the bumps...or you can chisel off the lumps...which is much cheaper!
Use self leveler- You can get it at Lowe's. It will mix up just a little thinner than normal concrete- You pour it onto the floor mostly in area where unlevel and it will slowly run into the unlevel areas- Allow to dry then your floor will be level. Look for it in the tile section of Lowe's. It isn't very expensive and comes in a bag. Also you won't really lose enough space to say you lost any from doing this.
There is a type of concrete called leveling concrete which flows well and is designed to do just this, level out uneven floors. But it requires some tools and skills, you would probably be better off to hire it done, because if it is done poorly, you've got a mess. Another consideration is is a product called dry-floor which is particle board squares with a waterproof dimpled plastic base designed to finish damp basement floors. This could be shimmed up using a level and give you a wonderful base for any floor including carpeting, laminate or tile.
