Answer:

Send it to Laundry (some shop can wash carpet)
how old is the carpet? your best bet is to get a pro carpet cleaner in, they can be expensive but they get the job done as best it can be done! if you cant afford one then try rent a carpet cleaner, i know home-base (i think) rents them out but if you don't have a home-base nearby you can always go to any hire shop and ask if they do it, they'll supply you with the detergent too and its actually kinda fun to do it yourself! and if you rent it you can do all your carpets at no additional cost! good luck!
There is the carpet restoration option. You can have the carpet done onsite. It has to be done by an expert services for commercial residential. You can dye your carpet to many different color and shades. appearance with a brand new carpet color. You can match the existing color for fresh new look or you can provide borders or designer patterns. The fact is that carpets don't wear out, the color fade and stain! For those unsightly stubborn stains, faded areas and annoying bleach spots, on solid colors or on multi-color and patterned carpet, you can remove the ugly blemish and re-dye the area to match it to the original carpet color and design perfectly with the rest of the carpet. The average carpet in the Indianapolis area runs $200.00 - $300.00.
Wal-Mart and Sears both rent out rug doctors (steam cleaners for carpets). Some Ace Hardware stores do this also. Wal-Mart would probably be the cheapest and if you've never used one before they can give you step by step directions. It will cost you about $30 - $40 for one day (depending on where you rent it from) plus the cost of the cleaner that you have to mix in with the hot water (usually about $20 for the big bottle and cheaper for a medium or small bottle). Go to the service desk at Wal-Mart and ask to rent a rug doctor. If your carpet is berber it will help but it won't make it look new if it is really dirty. Otherwise this should do the trick. The key, when you are cleaning the carpets, is to go VERY SLOW. You might want to go over high traffic areas twice. I clean my carpets once a month and this keeps them looking new!
rent a shampoo-er from the store. its cleap and gets the job done
