Question:

how to replace holes in a carpet?

last night i left the top of the cage open for my hamster. he climbed out and chewed loads of holes in the carpet. is there a cheap way to patch or replace the carpet

Answer:

you can make spot repairs for things like that. i mean if you have like 75 spread throughout the room its going to be pretty hard to do that. first of all you really want it to match what you're replacing of course. if you're carpet is old and faded that can be hard to do. if it is old and faded/stained up, you can take a match from an often misused area if you have one like a closet or such. the best way is to take a very sharp utility knife and maybe a drafting square and cut out a square all of the way down to the subfloor. take the piece you cut out and use it as a template to match the new place you are cutting out. once you get the new piece you can lay it over the previously cut out place (from the holes) and glue it down. that's about the cheapest way. if you just have a few spots, you might be able to find a suitable match to buy in little square foot trial pieces. hope that helps you out.
at frist you cut out the hole in give designed then other cloth cut the same designed and pest them.
You will need to cut out a matching piece from a closet, cut to size and glue in place let dry then trim excess with scissors
Wow that sounds just like what my puppy did,but of course they were way bigger.I really hate to contradict everyone else who answered but they were only half right. Cutting patches from inconspicuous areas is the right thing to do but using glue isn't. If it were they would install carpeting in houses using glue. You wont see that happening ever unless it was outside carpeting for a patio.Reason is it wouldn't be on there very long with traffic due to people walking on it, and use from the vacuum cleaner. The glue would not hold. That is why they sew carpet when they have to use two separate pieces to finish a room. Or to patch it. If you will be happy with the temporary fix and don't mind doing it over in about two weeks then go for it. If not you will need to sew your little patches. I sewed mine as I could not afford new carpet but couldn't stand to see it with holes in it. Either way, I hope it works out for you.
