Question:

how to say no to my child who wants to keep a pet? crane fly.?

My kid wants to pet a crane fly because it's cool but I don't want to keep it around as a pet. I'm not a fan of crane fly. How should I tell him no? Also, I'd like to explain to him besides the fact that it disgusts me: I don't like insects.

Answer:

Hi!! wong-say Why say no? Just put on in a jar and tell the little chap that they have to stay out side in the fresh air. then it will fly away and the matter is over plus the lad has learned that it is impossible. everyone is happy then.
just let him keep it . It wont live long any way!
well seriosly just let him have 1 if he wants it i mean gawsh hes just a kid n he likes pets dont u?
Maybe this is a good opportunity to spend some education time with your child, and look up crane flies on the Internet. They do not eat, and they have short lifespans, so they really would make lousy pets, but it might be a more positive way to convince him of this if you spend the time with him researching the animal together so that he comes to understand these facts himself. It is very good that you are leaving your personal dislike out of it in your explanation, good for you!
Maybe you can explain why dont you like crane fly, and telling your kid that it is not a pet, it is just insect.. But playing around with insects is normal for kids
