Question:

how to take heavy green oxidation off of brass fittings?

i am building a display of gauges and am using recycled brass fittings and small pipes, but they have heavy green corrosion on them. is there any solution that i can soak them in to remove most of the green and black stuff?

Answer:

paintball/airsoft mask or airsoft goggles w/jeans and a hoodie (safety glasses arn't safe)
Some gas stoves have vents that need to be hooked up to vent the pilot fumes unless it has no pilot then it is not a worry. If the hood doesn't evacuate the exhaust you can move the smoke detector further away from the stove and on the wall instead of the ceiling. You may not have a strong enough stove hood to vent the fumes.
Mel, yes they sell the locking gas caps, but I would avoid using one. Gas thieves are now drilling holes in the bottom of gas tanks to steal gas. And now that most cars have plastic tanks it just makes it easier for them. I think I would rather replace the gas in my tank than the tank itself, even at $4.00 a gallon. Hope this helps
