Question:

How to transition my 3 yr old son to his own bed?

am a single mom he stays with me in my bed but my back is killing me now an i dont know how to get him to his own bed i have bought him his favorite character bedding an still i find him right next to me any suggestions

Answer:

set time - bed - get in bed - read him a book - light out - door ajar - finished every time he gets up - dont say one word - put him back in bed done you will probably have 2 - 3 nights and he will realise - bed time alone is bed time
make sure to set a routine. my son started sleeping in our bed at around 9 months - not because i wanted him too, but where we were living and the people we were living with, we couldn't get heat in the apartment so he stayed with us for body warmth and for the blankets. well, after we moved he never wanted to be in his own bed. hopefully something better works for you, but i would have to lay with him in his bed until he fell asleep, from 1.5 - 3.5 years old. it made for long bedtime routines. well, then we got bunk beds, and i sat in the room for a few minutes, and we had a baby so i made up excuses, mommy has to go feed the baby, etc bc (lie) daddy left to go to the store, and little by little he goes to bed on his own. now we have a routine set, and sometimes he trys to fight it, but for the most part, its 5pm calm down time - eating bathing relaxing with a show or a game on the computer bed at 7pm and that's the same for him and his 22 month old brother.
