Question:

How to transport heavy objects from first floor to second floor?

I am building some new rooms for my house on 2nd floor by myself, but some products like bricks are difficult to carry without help. Also I would like to make the structure by using steel I beams.Would you give any ideas maybe about simple machines like pulleys or hoists to make this task easier?I don't want to hire a professional contractor since I am trying to learn, but I am in a budget to buy some equipment. Thanks a lot

Answer:

I understand that you want to learn but learning is for the first floor, in my opinion. Have a professional contractor do it...it will take a shorter time and will be done with expertise. Don't risk hurting your back like I did, thinking I could do it all and get yourself on disability so you can't do the project a second time, and just cause you want to learn you'll be hurting the rest of your life. It's worth your health (and your back) to have a contractor do it, believe me. You can always supervise their job.
I can't think where wood beams can't be used instead of steel in home construction, and they are much easier to handle. Even a brick chimney wouldn't normally use steel beams and bricks can be carried one by one if necessary. I guess I don't appreciate your problem. Sheetrock is difficult to get up to the higher floors, that's for sure. The simplest scaffolding for working on the exterior side of a house is to use 4X4's with pump jacks (see link below). But I think they may require two workers to use safely.
buy brick tongs for carrying the brick. do you hace access to scaffolding? you could hoist things up the scaffolding on a rope and pass them in the window.
Just my 2 cents here...try getting a few heavy-duty plastic crates (like behind the market), put bricks, tools, etc. and load on a dolly to pull up the stairs.
