Question:

How to use an external card reader?

I got a external card reader from my college dept. for free and it is connected via Ethernet cable. I may need the drivers for it to read the card but just for safety reasons, I'm not giving full information until the specific information is needed.Additionally could I transfer money from a prepaid card to my own account from using the card reader? Thanks to whomever replies :)

Answer:

Hello I am assuming the card reader you have in your possession is used, for your computer. The computer card readers are used to transfer data from a card that you would put in the card reader, and then you plug your card reader into your computer. All I do with a computer card reader is I put a small card in the card reader, and then I plug the card reader into my computer. At this point, I can transfer the data from my card reader to my computer. The computer card reader should have nothing to do with money.
If I am reading this right you are talking about credit cards. If that is the case, (and I have hooked one of these up for a business) they are meant to be plugged into a router, not the computer. They do not need drivers as the whole thing is self-contained and interfaces with your router. As for transferring funds, these machines are for Point of Sale purchases and not designed to transfer money or credit.
