Answer:

Black metal is a subgenre of Metal typified by its usually raw or under-produced sound and Satanic/rebellious aesthetic, as well as simplistic guitar phrases and under-accentuated rhythmic dimensions which allow more power for the atmospheric, detached and wandering riffs. Vocals are often higher pitched than Death Metal (or, screams rather than death metal's grunts, speaking in slang terms) and can sound detached or unnervingly direct. BQ: I could never possibly pick. I love them both more than life itself. EDIT: Death metal is often much too themed to either I hate God or Check out how obscene I can be. Wait, are you serious? You must be trolling. What you just said is the whole point of black metal.

Black metal is one of the true subgenres of metal, if you will, and not a merged genre like prog metal and alt metal. It's very similar to death metal only it's characterized by shrieking and screaming vocals in contrast to the grunting and roaring used in death metal. It also uses a lot more guitar distortion than death metal but guitar solos are pretty uncommon in black metal. For some people, it's kinda hard to distinguish the difference in death and black metal but when you really compare the two, you see that there are similarites but it is easy to tell them apart. BQ: I don't care for either but I find death metal more tolerable.
Black metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. It often uses fast tempos, shrieked vocals, highly distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, blast beat drumming, raw recording, and unconventional song structure. Death metal - very heavy, fast, the vocalist growls, the drummer plays a lot of blast beats, the lyrics mostly deal with death in some way or another.
Black metal tends to be atmospheric than death metal. The vocal style is different too, black metal bands shrieking/rasping the lyrics instead of growling. BQ: I prefer death metal
