Question:

Hughie's carry big bulldozers for the army ,marine ,etc.. .when there are big fires like in Calif. why cant- -

the reserves or military pool it an save some homes-,lives in our own Usa ?

Answer:

My sister used to work for the US Forest Service, flying waterbombers and smoke-jumper transports. She says that the military can not be sent into fight fires until all civilian and contract agencies in the area have been called out. The governor does have to authority to call out the National Guard units of California. Just like the governor of Louisiana could have mobilized National Guard units during Hurricane Katrina. BTW. Their are plenty of helicopters that can be adapted to fight fires, but I doubt a Huey can carry a big bulldozer. Maybe a CH-47 or H-53, but not a little UH-1 Huey.
the Pentagon has already deployed six planes that are equipped to handle firefighting, as well as National Guard troops to the area.
The National Guard and the Regular Services have been involved in every civil problem I have ever heard about.
The homes that are burning are built on mountains ! They can barely get fire trucks close.
Federal law prohibits the military from doing any task that competes with a civilian company. Since there are commercial companies around with aircraft to drop water on fires - the military cannot get involved until they are all committed.
