I am building a lake house and will have a generator. What should I do to ground my house and keep it safe?

Answer:

Some codes require a 10 ft ground rod be driven into the ground near the circuit breaker panel. A ground wire is run to the panel and to the copper water pipe (cold water) and incoming metal water pipe, if you have one. In your case, run a ground wire to the generator. If you are in an area of frequent lightening ( look at other homes and business around you) you may need to install a vertical lightening rod.
pound in a grounding rod. any copper water pipe if so use that
