Question:

I am going to be getting 2 piercings, scaffold/industrial and a tongue piercing...?

I wanted to hear about some people's experiences with these piercings, how much they hurt, tips of care, and things like that. I have heard that they put a numbing spray when doing an industrial (any comments on this?) Thanks for all of your advice and personal help. Anyone who is going to bag on piercings, why even bother? Thank you!

Answer:

Just be aware that piecings and visible tattoos may hinder your ability to get a respectable job in the future. It's a sad state of affairs that our awesome free country still judges people based on their looks, but the sad fact still remains that we do. If you really want it and want it for life, then go for it! Good luck with the piercing! :-)
Well I have some expierience in this department I currently have 19 piercings. As for your tongue my advice to you is to take 4 Midol (yes midol) every morning and nite for the first 4-5 days. Midol works as an antiinflamatory which will keep your tongue from swelling as it usually does. Also use listerine every time you eat or smoke for the first few days to keep it clean. This is all I did for mine and it was completely healed in 4 days and my tongue NEVER swelled up on me.
I only know about the tongue peircing. Try not to snatch your tongue back in your mouth when they do it :) Have a cup of ice ready for after.. so you can numb it. I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to keep mouthwash on you at all times. If you smoke a cig, use it, if you eat, use it, if you drink use it! Oh.. also.. buy alot of soups that don't require any chewing because you wont be able to do it for a week or two.
I got my tongue pierced about 10 years ago. The place I went to did numb it. But it wasnt a spray it was the stuff that was used at the dentists office-ya know that red stuff before you get the needle? Well with my tongue numbed I didnt really feel too much. I did almost pass out after the piercing, I guess my body went into a little shock or something. I don't think I ate before hand. I had to sit for about 20 min. The most important thing is to eat lots of ice!! Oh and make sure to change the barbell to a shorter one once the swelling has gone down. If not you can cause gum recission.
Scaffold/industrial dont hurt that much... from 1-10 it is a 3. Both of theose piercings you must really take care of. You must clean them out 3 times a day with warm sea salt and no alcohol. On the industrial I have not heard of a numbing spray to do that with. There is a gel but that is more common for tounge piercings. You probably can request it but most piercers will not do it. You would have the risk of: infection, ear collapse, cyst, and keloids. It is best if you do not sleep on the ears at night when you sleep. Keep your piercings in 2-3 weeks untill it heals then you can change them out raw steel is the best thing to use to avoid infection.
