Question:

I got braces today and I think one of my brackets is displaced?

I am in terrible pain anyway, but when i was looking at my braces in the mirror just now and i noticed one of my brackets can slide a bit and is loose. I've been out for a meal and couldn't eat much and I hadn't really looked properly at my braces before the meal so i DON'T KNOW if any of the foods i attempted to eat would have moved it. What do I do ?!! Also, paracetamol isn't working! Any help on how to ease the pain? It's horrible i literally feel like ripping them off!

Answer:

It's possible that the bracket just popped off from the strain of the wire on it, rather than from something you bit into. You should call your orthodontist, they'll probably want you to come in to have that bracket glued back on. They'll take off the wire for either the top or bottom (whichever has the loose bracket) and bond the bracket, just like they did to put it on in the first place. It might hurt a little extra on that tooth afterward, but since you're still in the initial painful stage, it probably won't make any difference. You might want to try taking some ibuprofen instead of the paracetamol, it worked better for me when I had braces. And just be patient and don't try to eat anything chewy or hard while your teeth still hurt. It will get better in a few days, and this will be the worse pain you'll have from your braces. Just think of how great your teeth will look when you're done.
